3. Recycle Paper

Paper is about 38% of our trash -- it’s the single biggest part of our trash pile! Newspapers, cardboard, cereal boxes, magazines, coloring books, old homework…the list goes on and on. When we recycle paper, it can be used again to make new paper, and it stays out of the landfill. That means fewer trees have to be cut down. Recycling all of your newspapers for a year saves about 120 pounds of garbage from the landfill, and save one tree from the paper mill. Making new paper from old paper also takes a lot less energy than making it from fresh trees -- 30%-55% less, in fact. It also wipes out 90% of the air pollution that comes from making a new paper with fresh trees. See what a difference you can make by recycling paper?
